Event Notes

Join us in Torrington to celebrate the culmination of We Rise, an exhibition of visual art, spoken word poetry, and hand drumming by Torrington Middle School 6th graders, hosted by teaching artist and poet Kimolee Eryn. Student work explores activism through the arts and is the culmination of a 6-month long in-school program led by artists John Marshall, Kaitlin Clark, Kimolee Eryn, and Tarishi Shuler.

Pre-Registration is required. Register here.

We Rise is an in-school program integrating creative expression with students’ academic studies of teen activism. Over 6 months, they work with professional artists to process and express their ideas around personally meaningful activism topics, collaboratively writing and performing poems, and learning powerful group hand drumming rhythms. After-school visual art and music sessions allow students to delve even deeper. The We Rise program was developed by ASAP! along with local artists and Torrington classroom teachers. We look forward to sharing the wide range of inspiring work created by these students, and amplifying their voices for the Torrington community.
