ABOUT THE SHOW

When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love.

The true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth.

WHO'S WHO

Picture
With an avowed pension and affection for period productions, REBEKAH DERRICK once again returns to the Victorian Age as the terse and politically fervent, Annie Cannon.  We last watched her dance atop chimneys and soar over London as Mary Poppins, which could only be described as a “dream role” for any leading lady. Other favored roles would be Mother in RAGTIME, Mrs. Potts in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and Gooch in MAME.

While living in Los Angeles, Rebekah was blessed to work alongside award winning actors in various film and tv productions including Girl, Interrupted, Inspector Gadget and a guest starring role on Nikki.  After wrapping her 1st national commercial she headed back to the east coast where she became a recurrent on-air model for QVC.  After 13 years of a 24-7 shooting schedule, she took a welcomed hiatus to focus on her husband, special needs “puppy” Fynniefynn and a return to her first love, the STAGE!

MARTHA IRVING (Margaret Levitt) was last seen as Darlene in "The Great American Trailer Park Christmas" with the Phoenix Stage Company. Previous credits include: "The Drowsy Chaperone"- Janet Van De Graaff (The Goshen Players); "The Great American Trailer Park Musical"- Jeannie, "Godspell"- 'Day by Day', “Chicago”- Liz, “Rent”- Mrs. Cohen, "Blue's Clues"- Mailbox, ensemble: "The Wedding Singer", "The Producers", "All Shook Up" (Thomaston Opera House); "Disaster!"- Levora Verona, "The Rocky Horror Show"- Columbia, "The Fantasticks"- The Mute, "Cats"- Tantomile, "Hair"- Shelia, ensemble: "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Oklahoma", "Guys and Dolls", "Cabaret", "Beauty and the Beast", "West Side Story", "A Chorus Line" (Warner Theater). I'm over the moon to get the chance to play pretend again; thank you to Sharon and the cast for our time among the stars.
