All roles are open to audition. We are seeking a large ensemble cast of men and women for this production. We are also seeking one young performer (ages 7-17) for the role of Jojo as well as a small group of young people for the ensemble/dancers. Auditioners must bring sheet music with them and be prepared to sing 32 bars, but no more than one minute, of a fully-memorized broadway style song that showcases their vocal range and in a style that is consistent with the character you are auditioning for. This should be something that you are very comfortable with, not something you just learned the day before! Auditioners should mark their selection with a highlighter. An accompanist will be provided. A cappella singing or recorded accompaniment will not be allowed.
Auditioners will also be asked to read from the script and perform a brief dance combination taught at the audition.
Rehearsals will be held three nights per week on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings with an occasional Wednesday evening because of Memorial Day and the July 4th holiday beginning Sunday, May 22nd. There will be one midweek rehearsal on Thursday, August 4, 2016.

ABOUT THE SHOW
"Oh, the thinks you can think!" Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Seussical lovingly brings to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination--Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. Seussical is fun for the whole family! Performers of all ages will be excited to portray the characters from the familiar Dr. Seuss fables.
A musical perfect for the whole family, Seussical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kind hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville. He meets JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.”Horton decides he must protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover, while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg left to his care by the lazy Mayzie la Bird. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial for insanity. Only his loyal neighbor,Gertrude McFuzz, never loses faith in him. Eventually, the two fall in love. Now one of the most widely produced musicals in the country, Seussical weaves a story of friendship, loyalty and love. Despite all odds, Horton and Gertrude band together to save the Whos, free Horton, and restore peace and unity to the Jungle of Nool. Charming Seussical teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for your beliefs.
CHARACTER LIST (ALL ROLES ARE OPEN)
THE CAT IN THE HAT – (male or female, strong actor, character singer) The essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again. This actor should have strong comedic abilities, flexible physicality, strong mover, and is comfortable improvising with an audience

MAYZIE LA BIRD – (female, strong singer/actor/dancer) She is brassy, stylish and vain. The most beautiful bird in all of the jungle. Oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation, and intoxicating beauty, to navigate her way through life.
SOUR KANGAROO – (female, strong singer/actor) She's a loud, brassy character with a ton of attitude. Gospel / R&B vocal styling a plus. Along with the Wickershams, she loves to pick on Horton.

THE WICKERSHAM BROTHERS – (male and/or female, character singers/actors, strong dancers) A group of comic, mischievous monkeys who like to play pranks and tease Horton. They need strong movement/dancing and physicality.
ENSEMBLE – will play many roles – Jungle Creatures, Whoville citizens, Cadets, Hunches, circus characters, Fish, and Hunters. Parts of Vlad Vladikoff, the Grinch and Yertle the Turtle will be chosen from the Ensemble. Seeking strong dancers and singers. Looking especially for strong skills in roller-skating, ballet (pointe), and any “circus” skills. Ability to ride a unicycle is an automatic plus. (All Ages)
