Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 7:00pm (by appointment)

All roles are open to audition. We are seeking a cast of 6-8 women and 8-10 men for this production (see character breakdown by clicking on "Read More").

Those auditioning will be asked to sing up to one minute of a fully memorized show tune (not from DOGFIGHT).  The song should showcase the style and vocal range of the character for which you are auditioning.  This should be something that you are very comfortable with, not something you just learned the day before! It is important that you perform your song, not just stand and deliver.

Auditioners should mark their selection with a highlighter. An accompanist will be provided. A cappella singing or recorded accompaniments will not be allowed.

Additional vocalizing may also be a part of the audition to determine vocal range and harmonizing skills.

Some auditioners may be asked to do a reading from the script.  Auditioners without an appointment will be seen as time allows. Video auditions are accepted for those unable to attend on the scheduled dates.

CALLBACKS
Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 7:00pm (if needed)

Rehearsals will be held three nights per week on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00-10:00pm beginning Sunday, January 12, 2020.

Tech week rehearsals will be Sunday through Thursday, March 22 through 26, 2020.  We do ask that Friday, March 27, 2020 be held in case an additional tech week rehearsal is needed.  The pickup rehearsal will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

Please have all conflicts for the rehearsal period available, and please note on Audition Form.  If you are unable to make the mandatory tech week rehearsals and/or pickup rehearsal, we will be unable to cast you in this production.

The Warner Stage Company is a regional community theatre company and does not offer compensation or housing for performers.

REMEMBER:
Casting is subjective and completely based on someone else’s opinion. Sometimes casting decisions are based on looks, height, or how you look next to other cast members. You will not get cast in every role you want and sometimes you won’t get cast at all. If you are not cast in this show, you should still celebrate the fact that you gave it your best shot and we hope to see you at future auditions!

Click on "Read More" (below the audition appointment request form) for information about the show as well as full character descriptions.
ABOUT THE SHOW
It's November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boy’s night of debauchery, partying and maybe a little trouble. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
All ages are just a suggestion and will be adjusted to fit the needs of our casting.

EDDIE BIRDLACE (Lead): Male, 18-25; a Marine private first class from Buffalo, NY. He is well respected and a natural leader amongst his comrades. Initially a hothead; a cocky smooth talker. He eventually sheds his brash exterior when he falls for Rose. Range: A2–A4.

ROSE FENNY (Lead): Female, 18-21; a diner waitress who dreams of life as a musician. She is a naturally shy girl, naive of the world around her. Becomes smitten with Birdlace and discovers a lot about her self-respect and confidence along the way. Ability to play acoustic guitar, a plus. Range: G3–E5.

BERNSTEIN (Supporting): Male, 18-25; a Marine private first class from Cleveland, OH, and Birdlace’s good friend. A bit nerdy and very inexperienced with the opposite sex. Range: B2–B4.

BOLAN (Supporting): Male, 18-25; a Marine private first class from the south and Birdlace’s closest friend. A poor Southern cad, he is the most vocal supporter of the dogfight and fairly crude in his behavior and language. Range: B2–B4.

MARCY (Supporting): Female, 25-35; Boland’s date for the dogfight. She is a nearly toothless and homely prostitute. Crass and brash, but sneaky and cunning. Strong belt a plus. Range: F#3–Eb5.

PETE / LOUNGE SINGER / SERGEANT / DRAG QUEEN (Supporting): Male, 40-50; smooth, clever and charming. The Lounge Singer has a crooner’s voice. Pete is a bus passenger and the Sergeant is the leader of the soldier’s platoon. Can also double as diner patron, waiter and Big Tony.

FECTOR/ENSEMBLE (Chorus / Ensemble): Male, 18-25; U.S. Marine private, cocky. Not too terribly bright.

STEVENS/ENSEMBLE (Chorus / Ensemble): Male, 18-25; a Marine private first class. Cocky and rude.

GIBBS / ENSEMBLE (Chorus / Ensemble): Male, 18-25; a Marine private first class, Midwestern.  Doubles as Steven's Party Date in drag.

MAMA / ENSEMBLE (Chorus / Ensemble): Female, 40-50; the owner of the local diner. She is not amused by the Marines’ antics and protective of her daughter, Rose. Speaking Role. Doubles as Fector's party date.

MALE ENSEMBLE (Chorus / Ensemble): Male, 18-45; to play Big Tony, Waiter, bus passengers, atmosphere and others.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE (Chorus / Ensemble): Female, 18-35; to play Ruth Two Bears (Native American), Peggy, Chippy, restaurant guests, bus passengers, hippies, atmosphere and others.
