Footloose -The Musical

About The ShowAbout The Show

Footloose

One of the most explosive movie musicals (featuring a young Kevin Bacon), Footloose is the tale of a small town that is turned upside down when a new kid from the big city moves in and falls in love with the preacher’s daughter. With the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar-nominated score, featuring the Kenny Loggins title track plus, Let’s Hear it for the Boy, Holdin’ Out for A Hero and Almost Paradise (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!), Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

One of the most explosive and popular contemporary movies has burst onto the live stage as a full-fledged musical! When teenager Ren and his Mom relocate from Chicago to a small rural town, he is not prepared for the rigorous local laws. The local Reverend has pushed through a town ordinance banning dancing. Ultimately, Reverend Moore realizes that only through placing trust in our young people can they become truly trustworthy.

Director's NoteDirector's Note

The one thing I feel really stands out to me as you watch Footloose is the fact that theater is alive and well with each new generation. What talent you are going to see tonight, with both veterans and newcomers to the ‘boards’. Tonight watch the energy, experience the power and the explosiveness of area teenagers that happily fill the places of those of us who have ‘graduated’ to more mature roles. I love working with the kids. They have the relentless drive and enthusiasm that make this production fly. The average age of the kids on stage tonight is about 16. They are among the finest talents and best natured people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. If there were a way for me to proclaim a dedication of this musical to anyone, I would dedicate it to today’s youth and proclaim to all of you that our little place in the universe is in good hands. I wish you could have been here for all

the endless rehearsals and the constant practicing. They never tire from the work. They thrive on it. They live for it. They make me a better director, a better person and an old curmudgeon who is very happy to see my love — theatre — in the loving hands of such caring and alive souls that tonight, present to you two hours of love and passion that transcends age. Yes, the kids are just fine and knowing that makes me feel, just fine.
