Based on Mary Pope Osborne’s beloved series of children’s books, Magic Tree House : The Musical transports Jack and Annie’s adventures onto the stage to create a theatrical event for the entire family. To restore joy and magic to King Arthur’s kingdom, the brother and sister team must travel to Camelot’s dreaded Otherworld and return with water from the mythical Cauldron of Memory and Imagination. If they fail, Camelot will be lost and forgotten forever -- and the Magic Tree House will be destroyed! Rising to each new challenge with courage, humor, and resourcefulness, Jack and Annie eventually discover that memory and imagination are gifts we can all use to fill our lives with magic.
“Reading and writing are about the magic of the imagination. This musical, in my opinion, multiplies that magic ten times. So when you see it, I hope you’ll joyfully travel in your imagination with Jack and Annie on their musical adventure—and come away singing a few tunes.”
—Mary Pope Osborne
An enchanting blend of song, story, and stagecraft, Magic Tree House: The Musical is a joyous and melodic treat that will keep kids (and parents!) on the edge of their seats.
The new musical was written by Will Osborne, who co-authors the lyrics with composer Randy Courts. London-based Joe Harmston will direct the project. They finished writing the show last spring, developed it through several readings and have now recorded the songs for a full-length CD that has just been released on the PS Classics Label. The creative team includes: Alexander Dodge, set design, Matthew Richards, lighting, Sarah Iams, costumes and Matt Brooks, puppets.
The Magic Tree House Book Series will be the centerpeice of the 11th Annual Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program. The world’s largest bookseller has partnered with Mary Pope Osborne for this program. In a fun and rewarding way, the program helps students in grades 1-6 develop their own reading preferences, nurtures their vocabulary and analytical skills, and motivates them to extend their reading beyond the summer.
