Movies Return to the Warner! 2006-2007 Stage & Screen Season

Launches with Exclusive CT Premier of Major Motion Picture

Academy Award-winning Director to be on Hand

TORRINGTON, CT -The Warner Theatre, 68 Main Street, is proud to announce that the theatre will host the exclusive Connecticut premiere of the major motion picture FLYBOYS on Saturday, August 26th at 7:30 PM. Directed by Academy Award®-winner Tony Bill (My Bodyguard, Five Corners, The Sting), written by Oscar®-winning screenwriter David S. Ward (The Sting) and produced by Dean Devlin (Independence Day, The Patriot) and Marc Frydman (Scenes of the Crime), FLYBOYS, based on a true story, is the compelling tale of the first American fighter-pilot squadron to see action in World War I.

Soaring high above the earth in a fragile, flammable, open-cockpit biplane, outracing better-equipped enemy aircraft, and knowing the average life expectancy of someone in your line of work is at most six weeks: this was the daring and heroic story of the men of the Lafayette Escadrille, when a few brave young men volunteered to fight for democracy. Barely a dozen years after the invention of powered, controllable flight, these pilots invented, experimented with, and simply dashed headlong into the modern era of aerial combat.

The exclusive screening of FLYBOYS is a special event to benefit the historic art deco theatre and serves as the premiere of the theatre’s new digital projection system which was purchased earlier this year. The Warner audience will be some of the first seeing the film before its national release which is slated for September 29th.

“We wanted to honor our heritage as a former 1931 movie palace and continue to develop more diverse programming at the Warner. The new projection equipment allows us to do just that. The new equipment will also enhance the production values of the live theatrical shows we produce, as well as the concerts and events we present. This exclusive film premiere is a fantastic way to kick off our Stage & Screen season and highlight our new capabilities at the Warner,” said James Patrick, executive director of the Warner Theatre.

The FLYBOYS’ cast features Golden Globe Award®-winner James Franco (James Dean, Spider-Man 1 & 2) , Martin Henderson (The Ring, Bride and Prejudice), Jean Reno (The Da Vinci Code, Mission: Impossible), and French newcomer Jennifer Decker. The epic film is based on an original screenplay by Phil Sears and Blake Evans.

The premiere event will feature a special introduction by the Academy Award®-winning director, Tony Bill (and Litchfield County resident) and an exclusive post-screening VIP Champagne reception and silent auction. The auction, whose proceeds will benefit the Cole Palen’s Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, a "living" museum of antique aviation, includes a chance to win a ride over the picturesque Hudson River for four people in a classic 1929 New Standard open-cockpit biplane courtesy of the aviation museum located in Rhinebeck, New York! The entire event falls under the aegis of the theatre’s new Artist & Author series, which launched in March with the successful presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt.

General admission tickets are $15.00. Gold Circle reserve tickets, which include the screening and the VIP Champagne Reception, are $50.00 and have limited availability. Special 10% discount for veterans and pilots with identification and group sale discounts available (not applicable on Gold Circle tickets). There are limited seats on hold for Warner Theatre Members. For tickets contact the Warner Theatre Box Office at (860) 489-7180 or buy online at www.warnertheatre.org. Promotional support for this event provided in part by Cole Palen’s Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. FLYBOYS is rated PG-13.

About the Warner Theatre
Built by Warner Brothers Studios and opened in 1931 as a movie palace, the Warner Theatre was described then as “Connecticut’s Most Beautiful Theatre.” Damaged extensively in a flood, the Warner was slated for demolition in the early 1980s until the non-profit Northwest Connecticut Association for the Arts (NCAA) was founded and purchased the theatre. The Warner reopened as a performing arts center in 1983, and restoration of the lobbies and auditorium was completed in November 2002. Today, the Warner is in operation year-round with more than 125 performances and some 80,000 patrons passing through its doors each season. NCAA’s mission is to preserve the Warner Theatre as an historic landmark, enhance its reputation as a center of artistic excellence and a focal point of community involvement, and satisfy the diverse cultural needs of the region.
